Hey foodie! 👋🍲
Winter is the perfect excuse to slow down, cook something nourishing and enjoy all the beautiful seasonal produce that's around right now.
This week's foodie update is packed with fresh finds from the farms, a few exciting new products and some interesting food news that's got everyone talking.
Onto the food...
🌿 FROM THE FARMS 🌿
🍊 New season organic grapefruit
We've just welcomed beautiful certified organic grapefruit from C206 Citrus in Gayndah. Juicy, sweet with just the right amount of tang, they're perfect for breakfast or fresh juice.
🍓 Organic strawberries now under $10!
Great news... our organic strawberries are now just $9.95 a punnet this week.
They've also been getting a lot of attention lately as more people discover just how heavily conventional strawberries can be sprayed. Proposed changes to Australia's pesticide regulations would allow dramatically higher residue limits for some chemicals on strawberries, which has sparked plenty of concern. For us, it's another reminder of why choosing organic matters.
🍅 Food fraud in the spotlight
ABC Four Corners' new investigation, Duped: Food Exposed, has shone a light on misleading food labels, undeclared ingredients and questions around the true origin of some supermarket products. It highlights why knowing where your food comes from and trusting the people behind it has never been more important.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have access to beautiful organic food that we know has been grown with love and care and is exactly what it's supposed to be. No nasty ingredients. No misleading labels. Just real food from farmers we know and trust.
And we absolutely love sharing it with you.
💚 Thank you for supporting small business
It's been a busy time for us as more and more people discover Joy Wholefoods.
We've welcomed a number of customers from Organic & Quality Foods, who sadly closed their doors after 40 years this week.
That's now the third similar local food business we've heard of closing this year.
It's a timely reminder that if there's a small business you love, please support them whenever you can. We need lots of independent food businesses to keep competition alive, support local farmers and give Australians genuine choice and food security.
Here at Joy, we run a very lean operation. We're constantly looking for ways to reduce waste, improve efficiency and keep our prices fair for both you and our farmers.
Our goal isn't just to be here next year.
It's to be here for decades.
🛒 New this week
We've added a few customer requested goodies to the range:
🥩 Ham hocks from Belvedere Farm
🍒 Frozen sour cherries
Frozen cranberries
🥦 Frozen cauliflower
If there's something you'd love us to stock, we'd genuinely love to hear from you. Many of our best products have come from customer suggestions!
🌱 That's everything from the farms for now.
We hope this week's update inspires a little extra comfort in your kitchen and reminds you that good food doesn't have to be complicated.
Thanks, as always, for choosing local, supporting our farmers and helping us build a better food system together.
