Hey foodie!
We hope you've had a lovely week so far and are looking forward to another week of good food.
One thing we love about buying direct from local farms is that we're not limited to what the supermarkets think people want. This week is a perfect example...
🥦 THIS WEEK'S PRODUCE
🥦 Cauliflower is in its prime
Beautiful local cauliflower is absolutely loving this cool weather, and the best part is the price has come down! Whether you roast it, turn it into soup, mash it or simply steam it with butter, now's the time to enjoy it.
🥕 Say hello to yellow carrots!
This week we've welcomed yellow carrots from Bauer's Organic Farm at Mt Sylvia. Alongside our orange and purple carrots, they're a colourful reminder that nature was never meant to be one colour.
Most of us have grown up thinking carrots are orange, but historically carrots came in purple, yellow, red and white long before orange became the supermarket standard. Today, supermarkets generally stock just one or two commercial varieties, whereas farmers can grow dozens of heirloom varieties with different colours, flavours and textures.
Purple carrots contain the same beta carotene as orange carrots, but they also contain anthocyanins, the powerful antioxidants that give blueberries their colour. Yellow carrots bring their own unique mix of phytonutrients too. Different colours mean different plant compounds, so eating the rainbow really does have its benefits.
Fun fact... "purple carrots" is one of the most searched produce items on our website! We love that so many of you are looking for something a little different.
🛒 NEW IN STORE
We've added some fantastic new groceries this week!
Every Bit Organic Olives
These quickly became a team favourite because they're packed in water, not the refined seed oils found in many supermarket olives. Just simple, delicious olives.
We've also welcomed:
Ceres Organics Gluten Free Sorghum Spaghetti
Ceres Organics Wheat Spaghetti
Ceres Organics Sweet Chilli Sauce
The sweet chilli sauce deserves a special mention. It contains around 50% less sugar than many mainstream supermarket sweet chilli sauces, without sacrificing flavour. That's a swap we're happy to make.
🥩 Belvedere Farm Ham Hocks
Comfort food season is still going strong, and these beautiful pasture raised ham hocks are perfect for pea and ham soup, slow cooked beans and hearty winter meals.
Don't forget to check out this week's Specials too. There are plenty of bargains across fresh produce and groceries while stocks last.
🚐 A LITTLE JOY NEWS
Our two new Joy vans are arriving this week! 🎉
They're replacing our very tired old vans, and honestly... it couldn't come soon enough. Geoff may have accidentally introduced one of them to a tree last week 🌳😅, so we'll be very happy to send the old fleet into retirement.
We also can't wait to get our beautiful new Joy branding signwritten onto them. We absolutely love our new brand and hope you're feeling the Joy too.
Speaking of which... is anyone still calling us Spray Free? Or have you officially made the transition to Joy Wholefoods? We'd love to know!
🌿 That's all the foodie goodness we've got for now.
Thanks for supporting local farmers every week and choosing food that's grown with care. Every order helps build a stronger local food system, where you know where your food comes from, who grew it, and that you're getting exactly what you paid for.
