From: Sovereign Foods

Harvested and packed entirely on the Casaretto family farm in Taylorville, South Australia, these raw almonds from Casarosa Almonds are grown without synthetic pesticides, fumigants, or glyphosate. Fresh, unroasted, and unsalted with skin intact, they're a genuinely clean Australian almond with exceptional flavour and nutritional value.

About the Grower

All almonds are sourced directly from Casarosa Almonds, a family-run orchard in South Australia's Riverland. Led by third-generation farmer Jarrad Casaretto, the team grows and harvests their almonds with a strong focus on soil health, biodiversity, and minimal intervention. No synthetic pesticides, fumigants, or glyphosate are used at any stage. Packing is also handled on-site to ensure the nuts reach customers at peak freshness.

What Makes These Almonds Special

  • 100% Australian grown by a single family orchard in the Riverland
  • Pesticide-free, glyphosate-free, and non-irradiated
  • Raw, unsalted, and natural with skin intact
  • Freshly packed on-farm, not stored in bulk or irradiated like many supermarket imports
  • Naturally rich in vitamin E, magnesium, fibre, and monounsaturated fats

About the Varieties

The available variety changes throughout the year depending on what Jarrad and his team have ready to harvest. Each variety has its own character:

  • Nonpareil - Australia's most widely grown almond, with a flat shape, smooth light-coloured skin, mild flavour, and a distinctive sweet finish. A late-season harvest that tends to sell quickly.
  • Carmel - An early-season variety, slightly smaller and rounder than Nonpareil, with a softer skin and a more intense almond flavour.
  • Price - A smaller almond with a sweet, buttery flavour, well suited to both snacking and use as an ingredient. Originally from California, it is used to cross-pollinate with Nonpareil trees.
  • Monterey - A smooth, soft-shell variety with large, flat, meaty kernels. A popular choice for both eating and baking.
  • Independent - A relatively new variety developed in 2008 and one of the few self-pollinating almonds available. Tends to be smaller with a higher oil content.

Culinary Uses

  • Snack straight from the bag
  • Make homemade almond milk or nut butter
  • Blend into smoothies or protein balls
  • Toast and scatter through salads
  • Roast at home with your own seasonings (150 degrees Celsius for 10 to 15 minutes until fragrant)

Why We Love Them

There are plenty of almonds on the market, but few are grown with this level of care. Australian-grown, pesticide-free, and freshly packed on-farm rather than stored in bulk or irradiated, these are a genuinely different product to most supermarket options. Their smooth skin and naturally sweet flavour make them one of the most versatile nuts to keep in your pantry.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Refrigerate after opening for best results, and consume within six months. For longer storage, freeze in a sealed container.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these almonds certified organic?
Not certified organic, but grown under strict chemical-free, glyphosate-free practices that go well beyond conventional standards. Casarosa Almonds prioritises soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity across all their management decisions.

Do these almonds contain the shell?
No. These are shelled almonds with the skin intact, not blanched. They are raw, unroasted, and unsalted.

Can I roast these at home?
Yes. Spread on a tray and roast at 150 degrees Celsius for 10 to 15 minutes until fragrant, then season as you like with salt, chilli, maple, or whatever suits.

What is the difference between Nonpareil and other varieties?
Nonpareil almonds are known for their thin, smooth skin, light colour, and mild, sweet flavour, making them a popular choice for snacking and nut butters. Other varieties such as Carmel or Monterey may have thicker skins, a deeper colour, or a more robust flavour, and will appear at different points throughout the season depending on harvest timing.
